Don DeLillo apparently originally wanted to call White Noise “Panasonic,” which in Greek means All (Pan) and Noise (Sonic).

I like that a name brand like Panasonic could have a double (triple) meaning as both a corporation and a phrase describing the cacophony of signs, interference, and noise that is a condition of life in post-Modernity.
